Evelyn secretly sent the letter for forensic testing.
The results made no sense.

Was nearly fifteen years old.
Older than her mother's disappearance.
Older than Alexander's first investigation.
Someone had prepared the warning years before.
That same afternoon, Evelyn searched through family photographs.
She discovered something strange.
There wasn't a single photograph of her mother before Evelyn turned eight.
None.
Every earlier picture had disappeared.
When she confronted Jonathan, his face turned pale.
He whispered only four words.
"I hoped you'd never ask."

A sniper's bullet shattered the living-room window.
Jonathan collapsed.
