Chapter 17 - Inside the Vault

The private office was a fortress of wealth and paranoia. Thick mahogany walls lined the perimeter, a massive steel safe sat embedded in the back corner, and a sprawling oak desk dominated the center of the room, covered in open ledgers, cash bundles, and a glowing multi-monitor computer terminal connected directly to the syndicate's offshore accounts.
Marco closed the heavy oak door behind them with a definitive click, locking it from the inside. He turned around, his predatory grin widening as he backed Tessa slowly against the edge of the mahogany desk.
"Alright, beautiful," Marco murmured, reaching up to stroke her cheek with rough fingers. "We're completely alone. No interruptions. Now tell me what kind of game you really want to play."
Tessa didn't flinch away. Instead, her hand moved gracefully up to her ear, her fingers deftly unclipping the diamond earring Gabriel’s tech team had modified. She held it up between her fingers, letting the amber desk lamp catch the artificial facets.
"I like playing with data, Marco," Tessa whispered, her voice dropping into a chilling, deadpan tone.
Before Marco could process the warning, Tessa slammed her heel down hard onto his polished Italian leather shoe, driving her weight straight onto his toes. Marco let out a sharp, surprised gasp of pain, stumbling backward.
In a fraction of a second, Tessa pivoted, her hand darting toward the glowing computer terminal on the desk. She jammed the diamond earring—now exposing a high-speed USB-C interface—directly into the main server port.
On the screen, a cascade of green code instantly flooded the monitor, bypassing the firewall with terrifying speed. Download initiated: 10%... 40%... 80%...
"You bitch!" Marco roared, recovering from the pain and lunging forward with blind fury, his hand reaching out to grab her hair.
Tessa ducked beneath his wild swing, grabbing a heavy glass ashtray from the desk and smashing it across the side of his head with all her remaining strength. Marco staggered sideways, crashing hard into the mahogany bookshelf before collapsing unconscious onto the Persian rug.
The computer monitor flashed a brilliant green checkmark: Download Complete. All assets transferred.
Tessa pulled the earring-drive out of the port, slipping it securely into the palm of her hand. She turned toward the door just as heavy fists began pounding against the wood from the outside.

"Boss? Everything alright in there?" a muffled voice shouted through the thick oak.
Tessa didn't hesitate. She unlocked the heavy deadbolt, pulled the door open just enough to slip through, and vanished into the chaotic, smoke-filled haze of the casino floor before anyone could realize what had happened.
