Chapter 22 - A New Dynasty

The transition of power was executed without firing another shot. With the Moretti syndicate shattered and its leadership eradicated, the remaining regional bosses quickly fell in line behind the Rossi family, recognizing that challenging Gabriel Rossi meant challenging the tactical brilliance of the woman standing quietly by his side.

Three months later, Ilvento reopened under entirely new management. The restaurant was completely renovated, featuring a blend of modern elegance and subtle nods to old-world Sicilian heritage. But the biggest change was hidden away in the executive suite upstairs, where Tessa no longer carried trays or poured water.

She sat behind a massive mahogany desk, reviewing logistics reports, managing real estate acquisitions, and coordinating the family's legitimate business empire with the same sharp, flawless efficiency she had once applied to running a crowded dining room section. She had earned the absolute respect of every enforcer, captain, and associate in the syndicate. They didn't call her the waitress anymore. They called her La Regina—the Queen.

Don Salvatore Rossi, whose health had mysteriously stabilized under the care of top-tier specialists and the renewed peace in his household, spent his afternoons sitting in the sunny courtyard of the Rossi estate, sipping espresso and teaching Tessa obscure Sicilian proverbs from his youth. The old man had finally found peace, knowing the family name was secure in hands sharper and stronger than any weapon.

And Gabriel? Gabriel remained right where he belonged—by her side.

On a crisp autumn evening, exactly one year after she had first poured his sparkling water in the dim lighting of booth four, Gabriel walked into her executive office holding a single, flawless red rose.

Tessa looked up from her paperwork, a warm smile touching her lips as she leaned back in her leather chair. "You're late, Mr. Rossi."

"Traffic on the bridge," Gabriel replied smoothly, walking around the desk and placing the rose gently beside her keyboard. He leaned down, resting his hands on the armrests of her chair, trapping her in a warm, protective embrace. "And I had to stop by a very specific jewelry store."

Tessa raised an eyebrow, her heart skipping a familiar beat. "Oh? And what did you buy this time? Another certified check?"

Gabriel chuckled, his dark eyes glowing with profound affection. He reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a small velvet box, flipping it open to reveal a stunning, vintage diamond ring that caught the amber office light like a captured star.

"No checks," Gabriel whispered softly, his voice dropping an octave into a low, earnest baritone. "Just a lifelong contract. No exits. No escape clauses. What do you say, Tessa? Will you rule the empire with me?"

Tessa looked down at the ring, then up into the eyes of the man who had pulled her out of the shadows and given her the world. The ghosts were gone. The debt was paid. And her future was entirely her own.

"Only if I get to make the rules," Tessa smiled, slipping her hand into his.

Gabriel laughed, sliding the ring onto her finger, sealing a bond that nothing in this world could ever break.
