Chapter 29 - The Legacy of Ilvento

Two years after the chaotic night Donato Moretti made his final, fatal mistake, Ilvento remained the most exclusive, coveted dining establishment in the city. The wealthy tech billionaires, politicians, and high society elites still lined up for weeks to secure a reservation, paying eight hundred dollars a head to experience the illusion of being untouchable.
Yet, behind the scenes, everything had changed.
Richard’s replacement as general manager was a sharp, honest professional handpicked by Tessa herself. The waitstaff were treated with dignity, paid fair wages, and given proper health benefits—a radical departure from the exploitative culture of the past.
On a busy Friday night, Tessa walked through the dining room of Ilvento, wearing a sleek, tailored black blazer and dark trousers, looking every bit the brilliant executive and syndicate leader she had become. She wasn't carrying a tray or pouring water anymore. She was simply observing, ensuring the machinery of her world ran with flawless, effortless precision.
As she passed booth four—the exact table where Gabriel always sat, where his father had threatened her in a dead dialect, and where her entire life had miraculously pivoted—she noticed a young waitress standing nervously beside a demanding table of wealthy patrons. The waitress, a college student working her way through tuition just as Tessa once had, looked overwhelmed, her hands trembling slightly as a rude customer snapped his fingers at her.
Tessa stopped walking. She didn't intervene immediately. Instead, she watched as the young woman took a deep breath, squared her shoulders, and answered the customer with quiet, unyielding dignity, shutting down his arrogance with a single, perfectly poised sentence.
A faint, knowing smile touched Tessa’s lips.
She walked over to the service station, picked up a fresh glass of sparkling water, and carried it herself over to booth four, where Gabriel was already seated, waiting for her with a warm, knowing glint in his dark eyes.
"You remind me of someone I used to know," Gabriel murmured softly as she slid gracefully into the booth across from him.

Tessa took a sip of her water, laughing quietly as she looked across the elegant dining room. "Oh? And what ever happened to her?"
"She took over the city," Gabriel smiled, reaching across the table to take her hand. "And she lived happily ever after."
