Chapter 25 - The Trap is Set

Back in the serene mountain sanctuary of Aspen, Eleanor Sinclair stood before the massive picture windows of the great room, watching the first heavy snowfall of the late autumn season dust the pine trees outside. The mountain air was crisp, clean, and utterly peaceful—a stark contrast to the turbulent storm brewing down in Denver and Boston.

Her phone rang, shattering the quiet afternoon tranquility. The caller ID displayed the secure satellite routing of her chief legal counsel, Marcus Vance. Eleanor swiped to answer, pressing the phone firmly against her ear. “Marcus, tell me what you and Daniel found in the storage vault,” she requested calmly, her voice carrying the unyielding authority of a matriarch who had survived every trap life had set for her.

“Eleanor, you were right,” Marcus reported, his voice tight with urgency. “Arthur didn't act alone. Robert Sterling, our current Vice President of Operations, is the architect behind the secondary corporate takeover scheme. He’s currently scheduled to host an emergency board meeting in Denver this Friday to force a fire-sale of your commercial properties while you’re up in Aspen.”

A cold, fearless smile touched the corners of Eleanor’s lips. “Robert always was an ambitious snake,” she replied smoothly. “He thinks an old woman hiding in the mountains is too isolated to defend her legacy.”

“What should our next move be?” Marcus asked. “Shall we serve him with an emergency injunction?”

“No,” Eleanor commanded softly, her eyes reflecting the glittering snow outside. “An injunction gives him time to hire expensive defense lawyers and spin a narrative. We are going to set a trap. Let him walk right into the boardroom on Friday morning, thinking he has won absolute control. And when he stands up to take his victory bow, we will pull the rug out from under him so hard he won't know what hit him.”
