Chapter 43 - The Gathering at the Mountain Sanctuary

By Friday afternoon, the private mountain retreat in Aspen was surrounded by a thick, swirling blanket of alpine snow. Inside the great room, the native stone fireplace radiated a steady, comforting warmth that contrasted sharply with the bitter winter wind howling outside.
Eleanor Sinclair sat upright in her favorite armchair, her expression completely unshakeable as she listened to Marcus Vance outline the international financial dossier Daniel had just laid out across the oak display table.
"Evelyn Cross," Eleanor repeated, the name rolling off her tongue like cold glass. "For thirty years, she smiled in my face, poured tea in this very room, and whispered words of professional loyalty while she secretly drafted the blueprints to steal everything my husband and I built."
Marcus adjusted his wire-rimmed glasses, tapping a finger against the printed wire transfer logs. "She’s currently operating out of a high-end consulting firm in Mayfair, London. Because she never directly signed the fraudulent bank drafts that imprisoned Arthur and Robert, her legal team believes she has complete plausible deniability."
Daniel paced across the hardwood floor, his arms crossed over his chest. "Plausible deniability or not, the Meridian ledger proves she orchestrated the entire structural framework of the embezzlement. How do we break through her jurisdiction, Marcus?"
Eleanor raised a single hand, silencing the room with the quiet, absolute authority that had carried her through every crisis. "We don't fight her in London courtrooms, Marcus. We use her own arrogance against her."
Marcus raised an eyebrow, leaning forward. "What do you mean, Eleanor?"
A cold, fearless smile touched the corners of Eleanor’s lips. "Evelyn prides herself on being the smartest legal mind in any room. She believes an old woman isolated in the mountains is completely powerless against international corporate law. We are going to issue a formal, binding summons under an emergency arbitration clause embedded in the original Sinclair family charter—a clause she personally drafted thirty years ago. If she ignores it, her international assets are instantly forfeited. If she flies to Denver to contest it, she walks straight into a federal perjury trap."

Daniel stared at his mother, a wave of profound admiration washing over him. The matriarch of the Sinclair family was ready for war.
