Chapter 26 - The Whispers of a New Dynasty

The morning sun washed over the sprawling terraces of the Torres-Vance estate in Westchester, casting long, golden geometric shadows across the immaculate English gardens. Six months had passed since their fairy-tale wedding in the glass conservatory, and the public fascination with Dr. Elena Torres-Vance and her corporate titan husband, Sergio Vance, showed no signs of slowing down.
Elena stood by the floor-to-ceiling French doors of her private study, adjusting the cuffs of a crisp, tailored cashmere blouse. Her coffee sat untouched on the mahogany desk, beside a stack of global medical journals featuring her face on the cover, accompanied by headlines praising the staggering success of the Torres Institute.
Her phone buzzed against the marble surface. It was a secure encrypted message from her chief of staff at the medical center.
“Dr. Vance, the board of the International Federation of Surgeons has unanimously nominated you for the global presidency. Formal vote is scheduled for next Tuesday in Geneva.”
A quiet, powerful sense of vindication settled deep in her chest. She remembered the dark, suffocating bedroom where Alejandro had tried to lock her away, whispering venomous lies that she was crazy, fragile, and entirely dependent on him. He had wanted to reduce her to a ghost, to steal her multi-million-dollar condo, and to wipe her very existence from the map so he could climb a corporate ladder built on sand.
Now, Alejandro was rotting in a federal penitentiary upstate, serving out his sentence for fraud, embezzlement, and aggravated stalking, while she was shaping the future of global medicine.
“Thinking about the Geneva summit, or just marveling at how quiet the world is when the monsters are locked away?”
Sergio’s voice broke through her reverie. He walked into the study, slipping his arms around her waist from behind, resting his chin gently on her shoulder. He wore a bespoke charcoal suit, looking every bit the global COO of a multi-billion-dollar conglomerate, yet his touch was as tender as the day he proposed.

“Both,” Elena smiled, leaning back into his embrace. “Sometimes I still pinch myself, Sergio. It feels surreal that the nightmare is truly over.”
“It’s not a dream, sweetheart,” Sergio murmured, kissing her temple lightly. “It’s reality. And you earned every single inch of it.”
