Chapter 35 - The Winter Gala

As November transitioned into December, Manhattan transformed into a magical winter wonderland of sparkling holiday lights, festive window displays along Fifth Avenue, and swirling snowflakes dancing over Central Park.
At the Torres Institute, operations continued at a breathtaking pace. Elena’s pediatric research initiative was now fully funded by international grants, and her medical journal publications were setting new gold standards across global healthcare institutions.
On a crisp Friday evening, the annual Winter Charity Gala for Pediatric Research took place at the Plaza Hotel. The grand ballroom was adorned with thousands of white winter roses, cascading crystal ornaments, and glowing fairy lights that mirrored the starry night sky outside.
Elena wore a stunning, custom-designed midnight-blue velvet gown that shimmered under the chandeliers. Her arm rested lightly in the crook of Sergio’s arm as they walked into the ballroom, greeted by a chorus of warm greetings and respectful nods from Manhattan’s elite.
“It’s incredible to think where we were just a year ago,” Elena whispered softly as they paused near the grand staircase.

“A year ago, you were trapped in a dark room believing a monster’s lies,” Sergio replied, his voice dropping into a tender, protective register. “Tonight, you are the queen of this city, standing beside a man who loves you more than life itself.”
Elena smiled, leaning into his side. She felt no lingering ghosts, no shadows, and no fear. The nightmare was buried so deep it had ceased to exist. All that remained was the brilliant, unbreakable light of her future.
