Chapter 37 - The Spring Blossom
Winter finally loosened its grip on Manhattan as spring burst forth in a magnificent display of blooming cherry blossoms across Central Park. The city felt alive, vibrant, and full of renewed energy.
Inside the Torres Institute, Elena was conducting her weekly grand rounds, leading a group of bright-eyed resident physicians through a complex clinical case study in the main amphitheater. Her lectures were legendary—precise, deeply insightful, and delivered with an inspiring blend of rigorous science and profound human empathy.
Sitting in the back row of the amphitheater, half-hidden in quiet observation, was Sergio. He watched her command the room with effortless grace, feeling a swelling surge of pride in his chest. He had seen her at her most vulnerable, locked away in the shadows of abuse; seeing her now—shining at the absolute pinnacle of global medicine—was his greatest joy.
After the lecture concluded, the residents swarmed the podium with questions, which Elena answered with characteristic patience and brilliance. Once the room finally emptied, Sergio walked down the tiered steps, joining her near the anatomical display board.
“Well, Madame President,” Sergio smiled, sliding his hands into his suit pockets. “You completely mesmerized them again.”
“Teaching the next generation is the most important part of what we do, Sergio,” Elena replied, slipping off her lab coat and draping it over her arm. “Speaking of which, we have a dinner reservation with Chief Harrison Vance and the European delegation tonight at Le Bernardin.”
