Chapter 10 - The Confession in the DarkThe underground interrogation suite beneath the North Georgia shipping warehouse was cold, damp, and lit by a single flickering fluorescent bulb hanging overhead. Bound tightly to a heavy steel chair in the center of the concrete room was the leader of the captured Swiss tactical team, a scarred mercenary named Klaus whose face was bruised from the brief firefight.

The heavy iron door swung open, and Vincent Moretti stepped into the room. He wore a dark wool overcoat, his leather shoes clicking rhythmically against the bare concrete floor. He pulled up a folding metal chair, sat down directly opposite Klaus, and rested his elbows on his knees, staring quietly at the captive for a long, agonizing minute.

"You're a professional, Klaus," Vincent finally spoke, his voice dangerously soft. "You served in the KSK, worked private black-ops contracts across Eastern Europe, and command top-dollar retainers from European pharmaceutical elites. So why throw your life away for a disgraced neuro-ophthalmologist and a coward like Alexander Vance?"

Klaus spat a glob of blood onto the concrete, offering a defiant, crooked grin. "You think you're a kingpin, Moretti? You're a provincial boss playing in a small American pond. Alexander Vance has political connections in Geneva and Washington that make men like you disappear without a trace."

Vincent didn't raise his voice. He didn't blink. He simply reached into his coat pocket, pulled out a sleek encrypted tablet, and slid it across the metal table.

Klaus glanced down at the screen. The display showed real-time financial tracking data—bank accounts, shell corporations, and offshore wire transfers routed directly from Alexander Vance’s Swiss holding trust into an untraceable Swiss bank account bearing Klaus’s personal name and identification number.

Klaus’s arrogant grin vanished instantly, replaced by a flicker of pure shock. "How... how did you get this?"

"In my world, information moves faster than bullets," Vincent said evenly. "And unlike Alexander Vance, I keep my promises. Your accounts are currently locked by my cyber-security team. But here is my proposal, Klaus: you unlock your encrypted satellite comms right now, call Alexander Vance directly on speakerphone, and tell him his rescue mission failed completely, and that you are currently awaiting further orders in your safehouse."

"And if I refuse?" Klaus sneered.

Vincent leaned in close, his dark eyes locking onto the mercenary with the terrifying weight of absolute authority. "Then I leave you in this container with my good friend Dr. Vance, and I let federal prosecutors trace every single dollar of that Swiss wire transfer straight to your personal tax ID. You’ll spend the next thirty years in a maximum-security federal penitentiary where people like you don't survive the first month."

May you like

Klaus stared into Vincent’s eyes for five long seconds. He saw no bluff, no hesitation—only the absolute, crushing certainty of a man who owned the board.

Klaus swallowed hard, his bravado entirely broken. "Hand me the satellite phone."
