Chapter 28 - Shadows Fade in the SunlightLater that afternoon, after the ribbon-cutting ceremony and the rush of press interviews had subsided, Vincent and Lila walked together through the beautifully landscaped sculpture gardens surrounding the new Pediatric Vision Institute.

The air was warm and sweet with the scent of blooming spring flowers. Rusty, their energetic golden retriever puppy, bounded joyfully across the emerald lawn, chasing a bouncing tennis ball while Marcus and Dante kept a discreet, watchful distance from the perimeter pathways.
Vincent sat down on a polished stone bench beneath the sprawling shade of an ancient oak tree, watching Lila chase the puppy with effortless, unhindered grace. Her laughter—pure, musical, and completely unburdened by the dark shadows of the past—filled the garden like sweet music.
Marcus walked quietly up the stone path, stopping a few paces away from Vincent, holding a secure encrypted tablet.
“Afternoon, Boss,” Marcus reported respectfully. “Interpol just confirmed that the final coordinated raids on the European Pharmaceutical Cartel’s headquarters in Geneva and Zurich were successfully executed this morning. All key executives have been placed in custody, and their assets have been permanently seized.”
Vincent nodded slowly, taking a deep breath of the fresh spring air. “And the domestic security updates?”
“Quiet across all fronts, Boss,” Marcus replied with a subtle, satisfied smile. “Moretti Holdings is operating at peak efficiency, our shipping lines are secure, and the regional capos have fully adjusted to our new philanthropic focus.”
“Good,” Vincent said softly, his dark eyes following Lila as she scooped up the bouncing puppy into her arms, laughing as Rusty licked her cheek. “Let’s keep it that way. From now on, our legacy isn't built on fear in the shadows. It’s built on the light we bring into this city.”

Marcus nodded in silent agreement, turning and walking back toward the perimeter guards.
Vincent leaned back against the stone bench, closing his eyes for a brief moment to feel the warm spring breeze brush across his face. The long, brutal war to protect his family was finally over. The darkness had been driven away forever, leaving behind a brilliant, unshakeable future built on truth, healing, and unbreakable family bonds.
