Chapter 24 - The Ghost from InterpolThe following evening, a heavy, freezing rain began to pelt the dark asphalt of the interstate highways surrounding Atlanta. Inside the subterranean tactical garage beneath the Buckhead estate, Vincent Moretti stood before a large digital tactical map of the property, surrounded by Marcus, Dante, and twelve of his most elite enforcers.

“Our intelligence confirms the cleanup operative is traveling alone under diplomatic cover,” Marcus briefed the team, pointing to a flashing red icon on the tactical map. “Name: Viktor Sterling—no relation to our former corporate traitor. Former military intelligence, specialized in covert assassinations, sabotage, and digital extraction. He’s carrying encrypted frequency jammers and high-explosive thermal charges.”
Vincent crossed his arms, studying the map with cold, analytical precision. “He’s not here to negotiate. He’s here to breach our mainframe, steal our decrypted files on the neurotoxin trials, and burn this estate to the ground to cover the syndicate's tracks.”
“Shall we intercept him on the highway before he reaches the perimeter, Boss?” Dante asked, resting his hand on his tactical holster.
“No,” Vincent replied instantly, a cold smile touching his lips. “If we hit him on the highway, it makes noise, attracts federal attention, and leaves loose ends. We let him through the outer gates. We let him think our security is compromised. We lure him straight into the central courtyard, and we snap the trap shut where no one can hear him scream.”
By 11:00 PM, the storm outside reached its peak, howling winds whipping the ancient oak trees into a frenzy.
On the multi-feed security monitors in the master study, Vincent watched the infrared thermal feed as a sleek, matte-black sedan pulled off the private access road and stopped outside the southern security gate. A single figure stepped out into the freezing rain, wearing a tactical raincoat, holding a sophisticated electronic override device.
With practiced, effortless efficiency, the operative punched a bypass code into the keypad. The heavy wrought-iron gates clicked open, and he stepped onto the estate grounds, moving with the silent, gliding stride of a professional ghost.

Vincent sat quietly in his leather armchair, watching every step the operative took on the high-definition monitors. He picked up his customized Sig Sauer pistol from the desk, checked the slide with a crisp, mechanical click, and slid it smoothly into his shoulder holster.
“Welcome to my house, stranger,” Vincent whispered to himself, standing up and walking out of the study to greet his uninvited guest.
