The spring commencement ceremony was held in the massive coliseum, packed to its ten-thousand-seat capacity with graduating seniors, proud families, and distinguished faculty members.
Wearing my crimson and gold doctoral robes, I sat on the stage alongside the university president and Dr. Everett Hail. When the president stepped up to the podium and called my name to receive the honorary degree, the entire coliseum erupted into a thunderous, roof-shaking standing ovation.
