Chapter 60 - The Forever Table

The applause that followed my commencement address was the loudest, longest ovation in the history of Hartwell State University. Flashbulbs flickered across the arena, and right down in the front row, Uncle Arthur, Donna, and Curtis stood cheering with tears streaming proudly down their faces.

After the ceremony concluded, I walked down the stage steps into the warm, golden spring sunshine, surrounded by my true family and brilliant colleagues.

We walked together across the sprawling campus quad toward Whitmore Hall. The bronze plaque on the granite memorial bench gleamed brightly in the sunlight, reminding every passerby that no labor is invisible when viewed with dignity and respect.

My office on the third floor awaited me, filled with research papers, student mentorship files, and the bright promise of tomorrow. I didn't need to look back at the past, because the future was wide open, undeniable, and entirely our own. We had built our own table, set our own rules, and lived happily ever after.
