Chapter 73 - The Summer Research Fellowship Program
With the arrival of summer, the Hartwell State Department of Economics launched its inaugural "Foundational Summer Research Fellowship," bringing twelve exceptional undergraduate students from working-class and non-traditional backgrounds into our faculty labs to conduct high-level econometric modeling.
I personally mentored three of the fellows, guiding them through complex regression analyses, data collection methodologies, and academic publishing standards. Watching their eyes light up when their predictive models finally balanced out reminded me of my own early nights staring at statistics textbooks in the back seat of my car.

The fellows listened with rapt attention, scribbling notes furiously. The academic culture of our department had completely transformed under my leadership, shifting away from arrogant elitism and toward rigorous, empathetic, real-world economic science.
