Chapter 29 - The Courtroom Showdown

The federal courthouse on 5th Avenue was packed to the doors once again. Word had leaked that Ashby & Co. was locked in a high-stakes legal battle with Vanguard Global Holdings, drawing financial journalists, fashion bloggers, and curious spectators from across the state.
Alistair Vance sat at the defense table, looking immaculate in a charcoal pinstripe suit, whispering smugly to his team of corporate attorneys. When Karen Ashby walked down the center aisle—wearing a tailored midnight-blue tweed suit of her own design—Alistair offered her a patronizing, condescending nod.
Judge Thomas Vance struck his gavel, calling the courtroom to order. "We are here to review the emergency injunctions filed by Vanguard Global against Ashby & Co. regarding patent infringements."
Alistair’s lead attorney stood up smoothly. "Your Honor, our client holds exclusive rights to the disputed textile patterns through an international asset acquisition. Miss Ashby’s boutique is operating on stolen intellectual property, and we request an immediate seizure of her inventory."
Judge Vance looked unimpressed. He adjusted his glasses and glanced down at a thick manila folder delivered by the federal marshal moments earlier. "Counsel, your client claims exclusive ownership through a Swiss shell company named Zurich Holdings. However, according to an audit submitted by the state attorney general and verified by federal maritime investigators, Zurich Holdings is an unregistered front currently linked to international money laundering."
Alistair’s smug smile vanished instantly. He whipped his head around to stare at his legal team, who were frantically flipping through their documents in stunned disbelief.

"Furthermore," Judge Vance continued, his voice ringing with absolute authority, "the court finds that Vanguard’s lawsuits were filed in bad faith as a form of corporate harassment. All injunctions are dismissed with prejudice, and Vanguard Global is ordered to pay full legal restitution to Ashby & Co. Court is adjourned."
The gavel fell with a sharp crack. Alistair sat frozen in his chair as flashbulbs blinded him from the gallery doors, realizing his infallible corporate empire had just been shattered by a seamstress from Alder Street.
