Chapter 47 - A Quiet Evening Under the Stars

Later that evening, after the celebrations had quieted down, Karen walked alone along the banks of the Marrow Hill river. The water reflected the golden glow of the streetlamps, casting gentle ripples across the surface.
Footsteps echoed softly on the gravel path behind her. She didn't need to turn around to know who it was.
Ambrose Calvano walked up beside her, placing his hands calmly inside his coat pockets as he gazed out at the river. "A magnificent speech today, Karen. The whole town is talking about it."
"It wasn't just a speech," Karen said softly, turning to look at him. "It was a promise."
Ambrose smiled, his gray eyes catching the moonlight. "A promise you've spent your entire life fulfilling. What’s next for the master designer of Marrow Hill? Is there another continent you plan to conquer?"
May you like
Karen laughed—a light, joyful sound that carried freely on the night air. "No continents left, Ambrose. I think I'll stay right here. There are still plenty of patterns to cut and stories to sew."
Ambrose turned to face her fully, his expression turning warm and sincere. "Good. Because Marrow Hill would be terribly quiet without you."
