Chapter 35 - Unearthing the Truth

The investigation into Marcus Reed’s disappearance opened a door into Marrow Hill’s darkest historical secrets. Over the next week, Ambrose Calvano’s intelligence network scoured municipal archives, old police ledgers, and property transfer records from two decades prior.
On a rainy Tuesday evening, Ambrose met Karen in her private workshop, placing a thick, aged manila envelope on her cutting table.
"We found Reed's financial records," Ambrose said, his voice unusually heavy. "He didn't run away. He discovered that the city councilmen at the time—working in collusion with a corrupt real estate developer named Arthur Sterling—were planning to burn down the entire east district to clear the land for commercial expansion."
Karen opened the envelope, pulling out a faded police report and a handwritten confession signed by Marcus Reed himself, hidden inside a safety deposit box that had remained unclaimed for twenty years. "Arthur Sterling," Karen whispered, recognizing the surname immediately. "Victoria Sterling’s grandfather."
"Victoria Sterling," Ambrose confirmed grimly. "The same high-society New York designer who tried to humiliate you at the Manhattan Fashion Gala. Her family built their entire multi-million-dollar fashion and real estate empire on the ashes of your father’s block and Marcus Reed’s murder."

A cold, fierce fire ignited deep inside Karen’s chest. The struggle had always been about more than just an eviction notice or a corporate takeover. It was about generational justice.
"Victoria thinks she’s untouchable in New York," Karen said, her voice steady and resolute. "It’s time we brought her back to Marrow Hill to answer for her family's sins."
