Chapter 49 - The Grand Celebration

The grand ballroom of the Grand Meridian Hotel was glittering with a thousand crystal chandeliers, overflowing champagne towers, and three hundred of the city’s most cherished citizens, artists, and neighbors.

The atmosphere was electric with joy, music, and celebration. At the center of the polished marble dance floor stood Karen Ashby, wearing the magnificent white silk and silver-embroidered wedding gown she had sewn entirely with her own hands. Her hair was swept up in an intricate braid, her scarred face framed by absolute grace, radiance, and unshakeable triumph.

Beside her stood Ambrose Calvano, wearing a sharp custom tuxedo, his eyes shining with profound devotion as he looked at his bride.

Around them, the entire ballroom erupted into joyful applause as the orchestra swelled into a beautiful, timeless waltz. Ambrose extended his hand, and Karen placed her scarred hand firmly into his. Together, they glided out onto the dance floor, moving with effortless harmony.

Upstairs in room 412 of St. Bridget’s Hospital, Ruth Ashby sat propped up in bed, watching the live broadcast of the wedding on her television. She wiped a tear of pure, unadulterated joy from her cheek, turned off the television, and smiled deeply into the peaceful night.
