Chapter 25 - The Dawn of ForeverThree years had passed since the night the heavy oak front door of our suburban home clicked open, changing our lives forever.

Sitting on our front porch on a warm, sunlit Saturday afternoon, I watched the world go by with a heart full of profound peace. Inside the house, soft classical music played in the background, blending with the gentle hum of Ethan’s latest robotics project.
Ethan was now thirteen years old—taller, more confident, and thriving in both his middle school classes and his local youth wheelchair basketball league, where he had recently been named team captain. He had a tight-knit group of loyal friends who valued him for his sharp intellect, his quick wit, and his fierce loyalty, never once caring about his disability.
My career as Vice President of Forensic Operations at Harrison Financial was flourishing, allowing me to mentor younger analysts and lead high-stakes investigations across the Midwest. But no matter how successful my career became, my greatest achievement was always the life I had built right here, within these walls.
My phone buzzed gently on the wooden porch table beside my iced tea. I picked it up and glanced at the screen. It was a calendar notification reminding me of our upcoming summer vacation to the Pacific Northwest—a trip Ethan and I had planned together, featuring whale-watching tours in Seattle and scenic train rides through the Cascade Mountains.
I smiled, locked my phone, and set it back down on the table.
Footsteps echoed softly from the hallway behind me—steady, rhythmic, and entirely filled with life. Ethan rolled out onto the front porch, wearing his favorite blue jacket, holding a newly completed robotics trophy in his hands.
“Hey, Mom,” Ethan said, grinning from ear to ear. “The coach just emailed. We’re heading to the state tournament next month!”
I stood up from my rocking chair, walked over, and wrapped my arms tightly around my son, pressing a kiss to the top of his head.

“That’s incredible, captain,” I whispered, looking out past our immaculate front lawn toward a bright, endless horizon where the road stretched out smooth and golden under the afternoon sun. “We wouldn't miss it for the world.”
We had walked through the fire, broken the chains of the past, and built a kingdom of our own. And as we stood there together on our front porch, looking out at the magnificent future waiting just for us, I knew with absolute, unshakable certainty that our story was only just beginning.
