Ethan and the Ohio state wheelchair basketball team gathered at the central arena to participate in the Midwest regional championship tournament. From the honorary grandstand, Alex and I watched every play unfold on the court.
Ethan moved with extreme agility and precision on his specialized sports wheelchair. In the dying seconds of the championship final, receiving a pass from a teammate, Ethan launched a flawless long-range shot, piercing the air and swishing through the net amid roaring cheers from thousands of spectators.
"IT'S IN! OHIO WINS!" the announcer yelled excitedly.
Ethan's team claimed victory in an overwhelming rush of emotion. I leaped to my feet, applauding until my palms stung, tears of joy streaming down my face.
As Ethan received his prestigious gold medal from the organizers, he turned immediately toward the grandstand where I stood, holding up the gleaming medal high beneath the crystal lights.
