The academic year concluded with a momentous milestone that made my heart swell beyond measure: Ethan graduated from middle school as the absolute valedictorian of his class, earning top honors in the state STEM division for his advanced robotics prototype.
The middle school auditorium was packed to capacity. When the principal took the microphone and called out, "Ethan Bennett, Valedictorian and State STEM Award Winner," the entire hall erupted into roaring applause and cheering.
I watched from the second-row grandstand as Ethan skillfully maneuvered his sleek, custom-built motorized wheelchair up the ramp to the stage. He accepted his gold medallion and framed certificate with absolute poise, his face beaming with intelligence, confidence, and radiant pride.
When it was his turn to deliver the valedictorian speech, Ethan adjusted the microphone and spoke with absolute clarity:
