Chapter 32 - The Corporate Reshuffle

The following weeks at Apex Media were a whirlwind of high-stakes negotiations, international conference calls, and strategic planning. Word of the agency's upcoming global expansion with the Metropolitan Arts Foundation spread through the Manhattan business community like wildfire. Competitors who had once dismissed Sandy as a rising novice now sought her out for partnerships, eager to align themselves with the agency spearheading the transatlantic art scene.
One afternoon, as Sandy reviewed the final partnership contracts in her corner office, her senior account manager, Chloe, tapped on the open glass door and stepped inside, holding a sleek tablet.
"Sandy, you have got to see this," Chloe said, her eyes wide with a mixture of amusement and disbelief. "The business journal just published their weekly corporate roundup piece."
Sandy looked up, raising an eyebrow. "Did they misspell our agency name again?"
"Worse—or better, depending on how you look at it," Chloe grinned, handing over the tablet. "They ran a massive exposé on the downfall of Apex Capital's former senior VP. Michael Evans."
Sandy glanced down at the screen. The headline blared: From Boardroom to Bail Bonds: The Rise and Fall of Manhattan’s Most Reckless Corporate Fraudster. The article detailed Michael’s impending federal trial for corporate embezzlement, shell company fraud, and securities violations. It noted that none of his former high-society friends or associates were willing to post his bail or fund his legal defense. The golden boy of corporate ambition had officially become a legal pariah, completely abandoned by the very social circles he had sold his soul to impress.
Sandy handed the tablet back to Chloe, her expression calm, unmoved, and entirely detached from the drama.

"Is he still trying to reach out to you?" Chloe asked cautiously, knowing fragments of the old wedding scandal.
"He hasn't called in months, Chloe, and even if he did, my number has been blocked and changed everywhere that matters," Sandy replied smoothly, signing off on the final London partnership document with a flourish of her fountain pen. "Michael chose a life built on shortcuts and deceit. The universe just finally sent him the bill. Pack up those contract files, Chloe—we have a global agency launch to prepare for."
