Chapter 39 - A Visit from Dad

Spring in London arrived with a magnificent explosion of tulips across Hyde Park and warm, golden sunshine washing over the historic stone facades of Mayfair. To celebrate their first six successful months in the UK, Sandy and Julian invited David to fly across the Atlantic for an extended two-week vacation.

When David stepped through the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport, sporting a stylish tweed travel blazer and accompanied by Buster (who had earned his frequent flyer miles with exceptional canine dignity), Sandy rushed forward and threw her arms around her father’s neck.

"Dad! You made it!" Sandy beamed, burying her face in his shoulder.

"Of course I made it, sweetheart," David laughed, hugging her tightly before turning to shake hands with Julian. "London looks good on you both. Though I have to admit, Buster was terribly confused by the British squirrels in Hyde Park."

During David’s two-week stay, they toured the historic castles of Scotland, dined at Michelin-starred restaurants in Soho, and spent lazy afternoons wandering through the Tate Modern and the British Museum. For David, watching his daughter command international boardrooms with absolute poise and grace was the ultimate vindication of every hardship they had overcome together.

On their final evening in Mayfair, as the four of them—Sandy, Julian, David, and Buster—relaxed in the sunlit glass conservatory of the townhouse, David raised a glass of sparkling cider in a private toast.

"I was thinking today," David began, his eyes misty with emotion as he looked at Sandy. "About that terrible afternoon in the Grandview Hotel. If someone had told me then that we would be sitting here in a historic London townhouse, running international enterprises, and living our absolute best lives, I would have called them crazy."

"We didn't just survive the storm, Dad," Sandy smiled, clinking her glass against his. "We built a fortress."
