Chapter 66 - The Return to the Roots

After a whirlwind fortnight across European capitals, Sandy and Julian returned to New York just as spring blossomed across Central Park. The trees were draped in vibrant green leaves, and the city hummed with the energetic renewal of a new season.
Their first weekend back, they drove out to David’s suburban townhouse for their traditional Sunday family barbecue. Winston and Buster—now older, wiser, but still full of boundless affection—greeted them at the driveway in a joyful blur of golden fur.
David stood by the patio grill flipping burgers, wearing his familiar checkered apron and a wide, welcoming grin. "Welcome back, globe-troters! I read about your Milan expansion in the financial papers. Next thing I know, you'll be opening an office on Mars."
Sandy laughed, dropping her travel bag by the back door and walking over to hug her father. "Mars might be a bit ambitious, Dad, though the digital branding potential is fascinating."

During dinner on the patio, surrounded by family, laughter, and the gentle evening breeze, David looked across the table at his daughter with misty, proud eyes. "You know, sweetheart, looking at you today—so strong, so radiant, so completely at peace—I often think back to that hotel stairwell years ago. I was so terrified that pain would break you forever."
"It didn't break me, Dad," Sandy replied softly, her voice carrying absolute conviction as she reached out to hold his hand. "It forged me. Without the fire, I never would have known how strong I really was."
