Chapter 61 - The Invitation

Back in Manhattan, the vibrant energy of the autumn social season was in full swing. One crisp Thursday afternoon, as Sandy reviewed financial statements in her Tribeca office, Chloe buzzed through the intercom with an unexpected message.

"Sandy, you have a visitor downstairs at the lobby security desk," Chloe said, her tone carrying a slight note of hesitation. "It's your uncle Robert. He didn't have an appointment, but he insists he only needs five minutes of your time."

Sandy paused, her pen hovering over the document. Uncle Robert—her father’s brother—had stayed neutral during the explosive fallout of the canceled wedding years ago, maintaining polite distance while the family navigated the scandal. She hadn't spoken to him since her wedding day.

"Send him up, Chloe," Sandy instructed calmly.

A few minutes later, the office door opened, and Uncle Robert stepped inside. He looked slightly older, dressed in a conservative gray tweed suit, holding his fedora hat nervously in his hands.

"Sandy," Robert greeted, offering a cautious, apologetic smile. "Thank you for seeing me on such short notice. I know I’m the last person you expected to see in your office."

"Have a seat, Uncle Robert," Sandy said, gesturing to the leather armchair across her desk. "What brings you to Apex Media?"

Robert sat down slowly, placing his hat on his knees. "I won't beat around the bush, Sandy. Your father and I spoke at his townhouse last weekend. He told me about the global expansion, the Lotus Initiative, and how wonderfully you and Julian are doing. It made me realize how long it’s been since I reached out."

He swallowed hard, looking down at his hands. "Back when everything fell apart at the Grandview Hotel, I tried to stay neutral to keep the peace. But looking back... I realize staying neutral in the face of such profound deceit was a mistake. You were the victim of an unforgivable betrayal, and I never properly told you how deeply proud I am of the way you stood your ground and built this magnificent life."

Sandy listened quietly, observing the genuine remorse in his eyes. The anger she might have felt years ago was entirely gone, replaced by the quiet wisdom of maturity.

"Thank you, Uncle Robert," Sandy said softly, her voice warm and devoid of bitterness. "That means a lot to hear. The past is behind us, and I’ve built my life on truth rather than grudges. You're always welcome to visit."
