Chapter 27 - The Foundation of Our Forever Home

By the spring of the following year, our custom-built modern estate near Lake Michigan was finally complete. After months of architectural drafts, material selections, and careful construction, the keys were officially handed over on a crisp Saturday morning in April.

Julian and I stood in the magnificent, sunlit foyer of our new home, surrounded by polished hardwood floors, soaring vaulted ceilings, and sweeping glass walls that offered a panoramic view of the blossoming suburban landscape outside.

"Well, Mrs. Vance," Julian smiled, wrapping his arms around my waist from behind and resting his chin gently on my shoulder. "What do you think of the foundation?"

I turned around in his embrace, looking up into his warm, loving hazel eyes. "It’s absolute perfection, Julian. Not a single crack, no hidden flaws, and built entirely on truth, transparency, and unconditional love."

Later that afternoon, Margaret and Robert arrived for our very first housewarming dinner, carrying a basket of heirloom perennials for our new garden and a bottle of vintage champagne. As we clinked our glasses together in the spacious, open-concept kitchen, the clear, ringing sound echoed softly through the house—a joyful symphony of new beginnings.

Daniel was thousands of miles away in a federal correctional facility cell, forgotten by everyone except his creditors. Vanessa was long gone, chasing another wealthy mark in a different city. And I was standing in the home of my dreams, surrounded by a family forged not by bloodline, but by absolute integrity and mutual respect.
