Chapter 77 - Unearthing the PastThe journal belonged to Julian and Victoria's late uncle, Arthur Vance, who had mysteriously passed away just months before Ethan’s father took over the company. As Ethan carefully turned the fragile, yellowed pages, a dark history unfolded beneath the corporate gloss.

"Julian didn't just inherit his ruthless streak," Victoria explained, her voice barely a whisper as she stood by the window overlooking the New York skyline. "He engineered the hostile takeover of your father's patents back when you were a child, Ethan. He used forged signatures and manipulated debt ratios to push your father to the edge."

Clara stepped closer, reading over Ethan’s shoulder. Her breath hitched as she pointed to a specific entry dated November 14th, signed by Julian himself.

"It wasn't a standard market bankruptcy," Clara realized, looking at Ethan with horror and realization. "It was an orchestrated corporate assassination. They framed your father for embezzlement so they could legally seize the patent portfolio for pennies on the dollar."

Ethan sat motionless. The ghosts of his childhood—the sleepless nights, his mother’s endless tears, his father’s sudden, tragic passing—suddenly crystallized into a concrete truth. The enemy wasn't just a corporate rival; it was a generational betrayal.

"Why are you giving this to us, Victoria?" Ethan asked, his voice dangerously quiet. "Why betray your own family now?"

Victoria turned around, tears finally spilling over her cheeks. "Because my family died the day Julian let greed consume everything we stood for. I have a daughter in college, Ethan. I want her to grow up in a world where actions have consequences, and where the Vrance name isn't synonymous with thieves."

She picked up her handbag and walked toward the door. "Do whatever you must with those records. Give them to the federal prosecutor. I won't stand in your way."

The heavy oak door clicked shut behind her, leaving Ethan and Clara alone in the vast, silent office.

Ethan slowly closed the journal. His hands were shaking slightly, not with anger, but with a profound, liberating closure. The shadows that had haunted his family for two decades were finally being dragged out into the blazing light of day.

Clara reached out, placing both hands over his clenched fists. "Your father can finally rest, Ethan."

Ethan looked up at her, the last remaining walls of his guarded heart completely crumbling away. He pulled her into a tight, fierce embrace, burying his face in her hair.

"We did it, Clara," Ethan whispered, his voice thick with emotion. "Together."

"Together," Clara repeated softly, smiling against his shoulder.
