With Arthur removed, the remaining board members quickly fell into line, unanimously voting to restore Elena as the permanent Chief Executive Officer. Yet, even as the applause echoed through the boardroom, Elena felt an unsettling chill.
Later that evening, as she worked late in her top-floor office, the private elevator chime chimed softly.
Elena looked up from her desk, frowning. No one was scheduled to be on this floor after 9:00 PM. The elevator doors slid open with a soft metallic hiss, revealing a tall figure stepping out into the dim hallway.
It wasn't Marcus. It was someone wearing a delivery uniform, holding a heavy, sealed package addressed directly to her.
"Sign here, please, Ms. Vance," the courier muttered, keeping his head ducked low under a baseball cap.
Elena signed the digital pad, taking the package. But as the courier turned back toward the elevator, she noticed a distinct tattoo on the back of his neck—a serpent coiled around a dagger. The exact insignia of the Syndicate, the secret society that had funded Victor's illegal operations.
