Chapter 89 - Race Against the Tide

The rain poured relentlessly over the container port, turning the sprawling concrete docks into a slick, reflective maze of towering steel boxes. Elena and Marcus sprinted alongside a team of federal agents, their boots splashing through puddles as they chased down a tip regarding an illegal arms and data shipment orchestrated by the Syndicate.
"Container 404-Delta!" Marcus shouted over the roar of the crashing ocean waves and howling gale-force winds.
A massive crane loomed overhead, its yellow arm swinging dangerously toward a stack of containers. Standing atop the primary container was a hooded figure desperately trying to manually override the locking mechanism to drop the cargo into the freezing sea.
"Freeze! Federal agents!" one of the accompanying officers roared, drawing his weapon.
The hooded figure spun around, revealing the sneering face of Lawrence—Victor's former right-hand man who had evaded the initial raid. Lawrence laughed maniacally over the howling wind, holding a remote detonator in his palm.
"You're too late, Elena!" Lawrence yelled. "The data is already being wiped from the hard drives inside! Sterling-Vance is going down in flames!"

Elena ignored the agents, charging forward through the torrential rain. Lawrence raised his fist to press the detonator button, but Elena leaped across the gap between containers, tackling him mid-air just as his thumb pushed down.
They tumbled hard onto the wet metal roof, struggling fiercely in the mud and rain.
