Chapter 85 - The Trap Springing

Before Victor could raise a hand or signal his hidden associates, a sharp, metallic click echoed behind him.

"Drop the remote, Victor," a deep, authoritative voice boomed from the stairwell archway.

Marcus stepped into the chamber, flanked by three armed tactical officers in plainclothes. The element of surprise vanished from Victor's face, replaced instantly by sheer panic. He lunged toward the console on the wall, his thumb hovering over the red override button that would wipe Elena's remaining industrial holdings.

"Don't do it!" Elena shouted, lunging forward with lightning speed.

She tackled Victor to the cold stone floor just as his thumb slammed down. Sparks flew from the console as the system short-circuited in a shower of brilliant blue light. Sirens began to wail in the distance, rising from the streets below like an incoming tide of justice.

Marcus rushed over, pulling Victor off the floor and slamming heavy steel handcuffs onto his wrists. "It's over, Victor. The federal wire fraud warrants were signed an hour ago. You're going away for good this time."

Victor glared daggers at Elena as they dragged him toward the stairs, his voice echoing with venom. "You think you've won, Elena! The board will never accept a convicted felon's niece! They'll tear you apart from the inside!"

Elena stood tall, brushing the dust off her coat, her gaze unflinching. "Let them try."
